Hey All!
Just a quick update over here. I will be working on the weekdays from 8 to 8 and on the weekends from 8 to 6 for the next couple of months. I have not left you, but I am not sure if I will have any new content for a while (though I will try). I like that people can come here and discuss many of these issues, so if anyone wants to write a guest post, I would be glad to have it! You can email it to me at violetrealitybased@gmail.com. It does not have to be some profound piece of journalism or anything; it just needs to be something to get the conversation going.
Thanks,
Violet
Thanks for the heads-up Violet. I've become addicted to your blog and have just sent a link to it to a very dear friend who is newly diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I've told her the 'Candy' story and now I'm just wondering where things are actually at, with our very own Pineapple Princess. Do you - or anybody else here, know?
ReplyDeleteNothing much, as far as I can tell. Her posts get a couple of likes, and the ones where she asks for people's thoughts are actually kind of pathetic...she gets virtually no response.
DeleteOf course, that's what happens when 90% of your "likes" are purchased. She's not going to get any sponsors without actual, organic engagement. The companies that might have worked with her "business" are all well aware of the technique she used to make herself look more popular than she really is.
Looking at the specific case you mention, I don't think there is any evidence that excessive pineapple consumption is efficacious in the treatment of papillary thyroid cancer. There is some evidence however that it may in fact cause a loss of brain cells.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention a screaming case of the squits. This does, however, shed light on her bizarre story of locking herself into the toilet to meditate...

Thanks so much for posting that link, Amanda - I'm SO glad her mother has come forward. I've been saying all along that journalists need to find her and set the record straight. The Women's Weekly interview the Herald Sun links to is here:
Deletehttp://www.aww.com.au/latest-news/in-the-mag/belle-gibsons-mother-speaks-to-the-australian-womens-weekly-20596
Actually, the more we hear from her mum, the possibility of inherited mendacity becomes a distinct possibility.
DeleteI realised after I posted the link that it doesn't have the full article. But yes, from what I've read, she does sound like a bit of a mess herself.
DeleteHereditary mendacity? I've heard that when combined with intractable stupidity and social media that can be quite lucrative, but only for a couple of years.
One of the things that made me suspicious about Belle was that she said her mother had "Multiple Sclerosis and Chronic Fatigue." Nobody would be diagnosed with both of those things. If she had MS, fatigue may be one of a number of recognised symptoms of that condition, but she wouldn't be diagnosed with MS *and* CFS.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to understand now how anyone ever fell for her story when there were so many red flags.
Sadly, Candy has just announced a delay in the launch of her new website!
ReplyDeleteCan someone please inform her that she mean "bear" with me, not "bare" with me?
DeleteOr maybe she wants everyone to take off their clothes with her? That kind of fits with her past online efforts.
She's not the brightest bulb in the box. Although "Bare With Me" might be a great name for a naturist health retreat.
DeleteWhat a pity about the website delay. Where else are we going to find shameless charlatans marketing treatments that don't work to people who can't afford them?
I can see Naturopathy snake oil being sold on her website when it's up and running.
ReplyDeleteStumbled on another website she has http://www.candice-marie.com/ , registered in March and come to a screeching standstill around the same time she starting receiving attention, I have no doubt at all our group effort to make her accountable has interrupted the money machine that would have been up and running by now.
On another note http://www.candicemariefox.com redirects to http://realitybasedmedicine.blogspot.com.au/2015/03/demand-truth-from-candice-marie-fox.html
Hey, so it does! Are you sure she registered the website herself? Sounds like a clever ploy on someone else's part. Someone, like us, on the dark side of the Force.
DeleteMaybe someone in the pockets of big pharma?
DeleteA sad post by someone else onto Candice-Marie Fox's facbook page:
ReplyDelete"I'm dealing with Breast Cancer since two years and doing Alternative treatments, so far without good results. I need to get a grip on it fast since it has spread to stage 4.
I'd really appreciate your help!!!! Would you be able to give me a written copy of the NORI protocol including the daily dosages of vitamin K, and selenium as sodium selenite. "
Her background: "In April 2013 I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma Breast Cancer. Since then I've been doing a combination of holistic Cancer treatments that my Insurance (like most Insurance Companies) does not cover."
So another person dying of alternative medicine and clutching at straws.
"without good results"
Ugh. That's depressing. What are the "good results" she's been seeing if her cancer has "spread to stage 4?" Candice's response should be to encourage her to cooperate with her oncologist.
DeleteStage IV is palliation stage. This is so incredibly sad to me. She has been seeing herself get sicker and it has been explained by shysters as being "healing reactions" or "flare-ups". I am sure that CMF's bogus story is only compounding her misery. What a disgusting person.
DeleteIf you look at her page she us asking for money to fund her treatments. She also talks about a heart condition. I'm guessing it's just more scam artistry. I hope so because otherwise her prognosis sounds very grim if she is not getting actual treatment. She says she put together a home treatment plan based on Internet research. It actually says that.
ReplyDeleteI found three different fundraising pages. Call me a cynic, but I'm suspicious too. Maybe she thought Candy's page would provide a ready (read: dumb) audience.
DeleteIf you google her name 'Tina walker cancer' already there are two separate fundraising pages for two women with the same name, virtually the same story but two totally different profile pictures. TOTAL SCAM.
ReplyDeleteHave any of you come across Laura Bond - author of 'Mums not having chemo'.....
ReplyDeleteYes and I 100% do not believe that someone diagnosed with ovarian cancer 4 years ago is alive today without conventional medicine. Heck, even with conventional medicine, 4 years of relatively good health after an ovarian cancer diagnosis is remarkable.
DeleteI am still working really long hours, but I am convinced this woman's story warrants a closer look. If anyone wants to look into it and send my some stuff, that would be great. I really hate having nothing on the blog and I equally hate people spreading lies about natural treatments for cancer.
So mum Gemma Bond was diagnosed with these cancers and is now cancer-free, ostensibly? Due to a natural diet? Okay, well has there been any proof she ever had cancer?
DeleteHi Violet, apparently she had a hysterectomy, but then refused the chemo afterwards, some interesting info on here..... http://www.debriefdaily.com/health/alternative-cancer-treatments/
DeleteOh, and this too, the story : http://www.healthista.com/my-mother-refused-chemotherapy-for-cancer/
DeleteIt's the standard story - curative surgery ; patient refuses adjuvant chemotherapy that would reduce the chance of recurrence, then thinks what they did after surgery cured them.
DeleteIt includes the standard 2% claim and the old misleading and mis-described survey of oncologists. http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2011/09/16/two-percent-gambit-chemotherapy/
Surgery alone can be curative even for some stage 4 cancers (including mine). But it would depend on the nature of the spread. A hysterectomy alone would not address mets in other parts of the body obviously...is it known if she claims to have had tumors other than in the uterus/ovaries?
DeleteAccording to cancer.org, the following is the definition of stage 4 ovarian:
"In this stage the cancer has spread to the inside of the spleen, liver, lungs, or other organs located outside the peritoneal cavity."
So according to the mother's profile on this site she has since developed another cancer in her pancreas...if this is true, I wonder if she's still alive? It's a bit odd that her daughter, who wrote a book and maintains the website, says very little about her mom on her site that is supposedly inspired by her miracle cure.

sadly, but unsurprisingly, no longer with us

Nat says: 'I had skin cancer on my own face which I cured with a slice of garlic and vitamin E oil, hence no need for the proposed invasive surgery the skin specialist planned.'

The healthycandy.me site's counter has reached zero and there are zero "serious updates".
ReplyDeleteNow I'm worried that it was really a countdown to the apocalypse or something.
I think Candy inadvertently created a counter that truly measures the potential contribution her advice will have on people's recovery from serious illness (zero).
ReplyDeleteReally pleasingly, 2 Facebook posts by Candy in the last week have got 0 & 5 likes respectively. What a great success if her entire hollow business strategy fizzes because people recognise the shallowness of the person and the transparent attempt to self promote no matter what moral boundaries are crossed. Hope this trend continues.
ReplyDeleteShe simply is not very good at this wellness warrior thing. She lacks the kind of charisma and naturalness that is appealing to middle class women.
DeleteWell, according to Candice's healthycandy.me facebook page, she apparently has most of her hospital records and is just waiting for her pre & post scans to put a full report together that she can send out.....
ReplyDeleteMy heart always sinks when I read headlines like this:
ReplyDeleteNewlywed shuns chemotherapy for CARROTS as she vows to beat cancer with alternative therapies while trying for a baby - even though doctors warn there's 'no evidence' they work
Nice to her this that you are not leaving.. Just keep updating your work.. I like them..

I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
ReplyDeleteliver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC there website is (ultimatelifeclinic. com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
